How much Poodle is in my Doodle?
People ask all the time what is the biggest differences between a cross-back pup and a first generation pup. Please note that generation material available can be very misleading and confusing so please let us reiterate that we honestly cannot tell a huge difference (personality or physically) between the F1 and cross-back pups. Some of their coats may be a tad curlier but they never look "poodly" which is a fear of some.
A cross-back, commonly known as F1b, F1bb, or F2b is the result of a Sheepadoodle bred back to a Poodle. Retaining the classic Doodle Teddy Bear look, the F1b and the F1bb generations have a high degree of non-shedding, allergy friendly coats and are suited for those families with allergy concerns.

Choose your Groomer Wisely
Since the Sheepadoodle is a cross between the Poodle and Old English Sheepdog, the percentage of Poodle and Sheepdog can differ between each generation.
As a mature breeding program, we strive for hypoallergenic and non-shedding with that cute teddy bear look and breed. We can typically derive outcomes from genetic testing in addition to being a fully-developed breeding program and using our own stock as well as deep roots with select breeding partners.
Predominantly it’s your groomer who will determine the look and feel of your dog’s coat. Some folks like their Doodle shaggy with the signature Doodle “fuzzy bear” look. Others prefer a shorter cut and prefer to see the outline and curve of their dog. This is a personal preference.
We would highly encourage you to focus on partnering with a great Doodle groomer who is familiar with the type of cut you prefer rather than being concerned with the generation of pup.

Getting your Doodle Poodled
Sometimes it is necessary for groomer to perform a close shave in order to remove matted fur. It's no fun picking up your Doodle from the groomer expecting a fluffy dog and finding they have been shaved down. The best way to avoid this outcome is to perform interim maintenance on your own and make sure you are brushing regularly down to the root of the hair. See our shopping list for suggestions on brushes. In addition, some folks prefer a short seasonal cut for the summer months.
What Generation is Right for me?
As a breeder, while it’s important to have knowledge of the Sheeepadoodle generations, we focus on matching breeding pairs that produce healthy puppies from health-tested parents that are structurally sound with consistency in sizing and non-shedding coats. We have a great track record of healthy puppies with wavy coats and loose curly coats, regardless of generation.
Poodles being Doodled
You can easily groom a Poodle to have more of a Doodle look with a "Teddy Bear" Groom where fur length is the same all over. Most Poodle owners prefer a classic Poodle groom with a sleek face but here are some examples to show the impact of grooming.
