Sheepadoodle Generations Reference Guide
After a lot of prayer and thought, we have decided to no longer breed the F1 Mini (50% Old English Sheepdog & 50% Mini poodle). The F1 requires artificial insemination which can be a very tricky process and timing must be perfect. It can often result in zero puppies, or as little as two puppies which is stressful, heightened by the length of our waiting list and folks depending on us providing puppies.
We will be focusing our energies on Mini F1b, F2b puppies and Multigens. The “b” indicates backcross meaning a Sheepadoodle is bred back to a Poodle. They are all roughly the same size and do not require any human intervention. "Mother Nature" can do what she does best and we will not interfere.

We receive a lot of questions regarding the difference between generations when choosing a puppy. There are boundless misconceptions and we hope to address them here.
First and foremost, we strive to produce healthy puppies with great temperaments. We’re a small family breeder and the health of our puppies and parents are of utmost concern. You can read more about us here. We only breed parents that meet our high standards and have pleasing temperaments. Most of our parents live with us, so we can closely observe them and make sure they meet our standards.
Secondly, we strive to produce consistent, non-shedding Teddy Bear, classic Doodles. We understand this is the desirable look and feel for the majority of folks planning to add a pup to their family. It does not behoove us to stray from these ideals.
We also screen the genetics of all our breeding dogs allowing us to identify shedding traits and proper coats. We rule out parents that don’t meet coat requirements. We have not found there to be any big differences in the F1 verses the backcross except size (the backcross will be a tad smaller since both parents are Minis) and some will have slightly curlier coats but not curly like a Poodle. |

With Multigen Doodles we’re more likely to be able to predict sizing and coat type (of course not 100%, but much better than an F1!). Our Multigens are often chosen out of our litters so we are certain of health and genetics. If you have further questions, please contact us so we can help in your decision. It is important to us that we place each puppy in a home that will cherish them and be the perfect match.

Traits Shared by Old English Sheepdogs and Poodles
Our pups are meant to be companions animals and both the Old English Sheepdog and Poodle share many of the same desirable qualities people look for in a pet.
An F1b, F2b or Multigen pup does not strip away the desirable characteristics of the OES breed, if anything the crossing with a Poodle introduces hybrid vigor, low to no shedding and minimal to no drooling that can be common in OES. |

We focus our breeding program for family dogs and less on working capabilities that can be important to some when considering an OES. Although our dogs are athletic and love to be outdoors, their intention is to be family pets and loyal and loving companions, not herders as was their original purpose.

Missy is a F1 Sheepadoodle so she is equal parts OES and Poodle. Mamba, her brother is an F2b Sheepadoodle, where his parents are both Sheepadoodles. They both have the same wavy, non-shedding coats. Follow them @mandmdoodles_
